The eight-year-old trains with Collegians Campbelltown Athletics, and also plays football for the Camden Rams under-10 boys.
Mum Tracey said she was proud to see Kye nominated for a Local Sports Star award in the category of Young Sporting Spirit for his sportsmanship and dedication.
“Kye trains every afternoon in our street and is always one to congratulate other competitors and give them a pat on the back,” she said.
“He just loves athletics, last year he went to zone, and then regional — he would have gone to state if it was in his age group — and also state relay where he medalled in all championships.”
The Mt Annan resident can be found training in his street every afternoon, and has been involved in athletics for four years.
“I love sport and running,” he said.
“I want to make it to state for athletics this year and to play footy in the NRL when Im older.”
The St Peters Anglican School student said he loved the challenge of competing, and is looking forward to more competitions this year.
The Local Sports Star awards have five categories, including Local Sports Star individual, Local Sports Star team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual, Young Sporting Spirit Team and Service to Sport.
