ONE lesson on a northern beaches court as an eight-year-old was all it took for Joel Goodwin to be hooked on tennis.
The 37-year-old, who is the latest Local Sports Star nominee in the Service to Sport category, is now a full-time coach, well known across the peninsula.
He recalled how his passion for the sport started from a young age.
“I remember it well, I couldn’t get enough,’’ the Elanora Heights resident said.
“In my mid teens I started coaching a fair bit to raise money to play in tournaments overseas.
“Once I finished my HSC I started full-time and haven’t stopped.”
Goodwin was a promising junior, and had aspirations to play professionally.
So the transition to mentoring others was an easy one.
“Everyday I’m doing something I love. You can’t ask for much more than that,’’ he said.
Goodwin has been Northern Beaches Tennis Association president since 2015.
He also enjoys a longstanding positive rapport with Tennis Australia and Tennis NSW.
